The Andalusian Government Council approved on August 2nd 2010 the Andalusian Programme for Climate Change Adaptation (read). Andalusia became the first autonomous community to develop adaptative proposals for ecological systems and the most vulnerable economic sectors to the change scenarios that provide predictive models for the XXI century.
The Adaptation Program develops a new chapter on "continuous improvement of knowledge” that defines and creates the Andalusian Network of Global Change Observatories, designed under emblematic and representative ecosystems in the region between Sierra Nevada, Almeria subdeserts, Doñana marshes, Sierra Morena meadows and the Strait coastline.
The Andalusian Centre for the Assessment and Monitoring of Global Change, based at the University of Almeria, is a key element of the Observatories Network and focus on the analysis and monitoring of climate change and global change on semiarid landscapes in Eastern Andalusia.
The creation and implementation of an Observatory network in the Rediam requires the support of the new information to be generated in the formats provided by the system and its ranking at different scales, from the regional approach to the representative ecosystem levels of the various defined observatories.
